Are stainless steel water bottles safe to drink from?

Yes, absolutely. A high-grade stainless steel water bottle is perfectly safe to drink from. A Cheeki water bottle, for example, is made using high quality, 18/8, food-grade stainless steel. However, be careful of bottles that are made from lower grade stainless steel and aren't BPA-free as these can leak toxins into your water over time.

You also want to look for stainless steel rather than aluminium. Food grade stainless steel can be used without a lining and is bacteria and rust-resistant, whereas aluminium bottles are often lined with plastic or ceramic – so there's a chance your bottle could contain BPA. BPA is an industrial chemical found in plastics that's not safe for human consumption.
 

Is stainless steel better for drinking than plastic?

The main concern with plastic water bottles is BPA – that chemical found in many plastics that can leach and cause harm to your body. With more awareness about BPA, many plastic water bottles don't contain it anymore and are often clearly marked as BPA-free.
