Beauty Tips – Choosing the right colours for your complexion
Date Posted:26 July 2017
Needing a little help deciding on colours for your new natural and organic make up? Follow the guidelines below for your complexion.
FAIR SKIN
Foundation
Pinks, beige and tawny foundations will suit a fair complexion the most. Avoid foundations with too much yellow or golden undertones.
Eyes
Champagne, browns, golden, peaches and pink.
Cheeks
Dusty pinks and apricot tones.
Lips
Rosy pink lipsticks and toffee coloured glosses. Avoid neutral colours, as they can leave you looking washed out.
MEDIUM-FAIR SKIN
Foundation
Nudes and taupes with undertones of bronze, golden and yellow.
Lips
Beige, reddish browns, peach and nude.
Cheeks
Peachy pinks with flecks of gold.
MEDIUM-DARK SKIN
Supposedly this skin tone can handle anything you throw at it! You lucky duck!
Foundation
Dark taupe with undertones of brown or orange.
Eyes
Metallic browns, golden and bronze.
Lips
Caramel, berry, rose/peach pink.
Cheeks
Vibrant pinks.
DARK SKIN TONE
Foundation
Warm and chocolaty foundation with undertones of red.
Eyes
Burnt copper, bronze, berry or burgundy.
Lips
Chestnut, cherry, red with a hint of violet.
Cheeks
Deep burgundy.
COLOUR TIP
Your natural foundation should be the same colour as your skin, not darker or lighter. If you want to add colour to your face, use a natural or organic bronzer to highlight sections of your face and create a luminous glow. A foundation should even out your complexion, without changing your skins natural colour.
If your foundation creates a noticeable difference between your face and your scalp (where your hairline starts), your foundation is too dark.
Day time / Night time:
Make up should be softer and more natural looking during the daytime. Lighter colours for your eyes and lips and less foundation over all. I know you want to flaunt your chemical free face, but wait until the sun goes down before applying applying heavy eye shadow and bold lips.
THE GOLDEN RULE THOU SHALT NOT FORGET!
Take off you make up before going to sleep. Nighttime is when your skin detoxifies, and if you leave your skin to fight through make up over night, you will clog your pores, build bacteria and promote blemishes. Yes, even natural make up needs to be taken off.
It’s ok though! You can cheat. Here’s my secret tip:
Keep a packet of organic face wipes by your bed. Next time you’re so tired you can’t bare to take your make up off, simply crawl into bed, reach for your face wipes and clean it off while lying down. No more morning regrets!
