Founder of Supercharged Food, Lee Holmes has taken Love Your Gut powder every day for over four years. Most days it's just once but when she has overindulged or feeling bloated she will take it twice. Her husband has taken it twice a day for four years. It's very gentle - she compares it to brushing her teeth. If I don't brush for a day, a film of plaque arrives and it’s the same with my digestive system. Waste, plaque, bad bacteria builds up constantly so a little gentle cleanse with Love Your Gut works for her every day.
How does it work?
Diatomaceous earth looks like a cylinder/honeycomb full of holes that has a negative charge. As the millions of cylinders move through the stomach and digest tract, they attract and absorb bacteria, fungi, protozoa, viruses, endotoxins, pesticides, drug residues, E-coli and heavy metals. These pathogens are trapped inside the cylinder and passed out of the body. Part of the reason is because the bad bacteria has a positive charge and the good bacteria generally has a negative or neutral charge, as does diatomaceous earth. Additionally, any larger parasites that happen to be in the stomach or digestive tract are taken care of by the diatomaceous earth particles. This de-burdening of the digestive system results in not only a healthier digestive system but a healthier body that’s less prone to sickness. Most people who ingest diatomaceous earth on a daily basis state they generally feel better because the bad bacteria, parasites and heavy metals are being removed from the body and so, the immune system has less work to do.

Is Diatomaceous Earth absorbed in the blood stream?
A small amount of food grade diatomaceous earth is absorbed into the blood stream. As it moves throughout the body, it can clean and break up plaque in the blood vessels and may destroy bad fats. Many people have noticed that taking Love Your Gut has lowered their cholesterol levels by as much as 40-50 points. Additionally, many people have also noticed their high blood pressure has decreased. I want to add that this evidence is anecdotal.
Would it rid the body of parasites and heavy metals?
It will help get rid of both parasites and heavy metals as it’s a gentle but effective cleanse. As it is negatively charged it ‘attracts’ positively charged particles such as bad bacteria and heavy metals. It’s not a quick fix or a purge and it’s not a laxative. It's a mineral food.
Why do you use fresh water vs. salt water diatomaceous earth?
Fresh water deposits like Supercharged Food's have a consistent diatom presence. Their fossilized shells have maintained their tubular shape. This shape and strength of the fossil shell is critical to its effectiveness. Supercharged Food's deposit is more consistent in purity of other elements that have settled in it. Salt water deposits contain a mix of types of diatoms of different shapes. Their fossilized shells are fragile and break easily. This renders them ineffective for our purposes. The salt water deposits are less predictable in their sediments.
What’s the difference between amorphous and crystalline silica?
Amorphous silica is silica in its natural occurring state. It is a trace mineral every mammal on the planet needs to gain full health. It becomes crystalline when it is exposed to extreme heat through volcanic activity or commercial manufacturing means, e.g. the type of diatomaceous earth used in swimming pool, and other, filtration systems are crystalline silica. Crystalline silica is extremely dangerous when inhaled or ingested. It is not biodegradable.
Is there a difference between “Naturopathic Grade” and “Food Grade” products?
Supercharged Food Diatomaceous Earth has been approved by Food Standards Australia and New Zealand. Like salt has many grades – from Celtic sea salt to pool salt, diatomaceous earth has many grades too. Supercharged Food's food grade diatomaceous earth is approved for human consumption at the serving indicated on the pack. She tried sources from around the world, including Australia, and in over two years of research, composition analysis and testing, Lee found Supercharged Food source is the best and purest available.
Does it also get rid of good bacteria?
Diatomaceous Earth will not absorb beneficial bacteria simply due to the fact that diatomaceous earth has a negative charge and bad bacteria has a positive charge. However, we recommend consuming probiotic rich foods or taking a probiotic supplement to help the good bacteria within the gut flourish and grow, as the body has improved nutrient absorption, enabling more good bacteria to grow.
